One Stop Career Centers – Employment Services

The Employment Services Branch provides assistance to employers and job seekers through a continuum of comprehensive employment related Services. Services are provided through CalWorKS, the office for employment training (OET), the Workforce investment Board (WIB), and in partnership with the employment Development Department (EDD) at our three one-Stop Career Centers located in Salinas, King City, and Seaside.

Office for Employment Training (OET)

OET has been a major provider of employment services and resources to local residents since 1981. Through support of the Workforce Investment Act, OET provides a comprehensive array of services to job seekers and employers. Located at the Salinas One Stop Career Center, OET offers many services, tools and resources. A number of workshops are available to improve a person’s job skills in career planning, job search strategies, interviewing skills, and resume writing.

Employers in Monterey County can post job openings on the OET website and review resumes of potential employees. The OET Business Services Center can help employers and entrepreneurs analyze the local labor market, review suitable training programs as well as access information concerning human resources, legal and labor relations issues, and many other useful services.

Workforce Investment Board (WIB)

The Workforce Investment Board was established through the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 and is designated by the Board of Supervisors to provide strategic planning, policy development, oversight and evaluation of the local workforce investment system.

The purpose of the Monterey County Workforce Investment Board is to develop broad strategic policy for the county’s workforce development and economic interests, assist businesses in finding, developing and retaining a quality workforce, and supporting job seekers with funds for specialized workshops, classroom training, subsidized employment, and supportive services.

CalWORKs Employment Services (CWES)

CWES is a unique Program Branch in the Department. CWES provides services to the community through employment related activities, as well as internal services to the Department through Staff Development. CWES also performs a community planning and advocacy function through the Community Action Partnership (CAP), and the Child Care Planning Council.
